On August 18, VOYCE leaders attended a national screening of "Waiting for Superman," a new documentary about education reform. Here's what LSNA leader Brian P. had to say about it...

VOYCE was invited to attend the screening of the documentary “Waiting for Superman” on Wednesday, August 18. As part of the screening, Sway from MTV news facilitated a Q and A section in which VOYCE did an incredible job on showing how much knowledge and power the youth have on the drop out crisis. The documentary showed how families have to base all their hope on getting into a good charter school. It seemed that the documentary was leaning towards how a couple of charter schools are the solution to the drop out crisis in our public school system. VOYCE did a great job at the Q and A section pushing back on this message and putting ours out there. Maria a youth leader at APNC kept saying how important youth voice in the decision making is, explaining how youth are the ones being affected by this issue and we as youth have the best solutions.

After the screening, Julio C. from LSNA gave Sway his VOYCE t-shirt, which Sway wore the next day to interview Soulja Boy! Thanks for the shout-out, Sway!
MTV News also ran a story on the screening--watch the video below or go to our press page to see Maria sharing VOYCE's powerful message of youth-driven reform.
